Description
Used primarily as an intermediate in the production of chelating agents, such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Ethylenediamine is also used as an intermediate in the production of polyamide resins, ethylene bis-stearamide, gasoline and lube oil additives, cationic surfactants and fungicides. To a lesser extent EDA has been used as an intermediate in the production of fabric softeners and bleach activators. Ethylenediamine is used within the pharmaceutical industry to produce aminophylline for the treatment of acute severe asthma.
